Greenville Elks Hoop Shoot scheduled

GREENVILLE – The annual Greenville Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at Greenville High School at 2 p.m. Dec. 11.

Each school in Darke County has received information about the hoop shoot. A contest will be held at each school conducted by physical education teachers and/or coaches.

Anyone who would like to participate should show up on Dec. 11 and pre-register at 1:30 p.m. Participants should enter doors No. 2 in front of Greenville High School.

On the day of the contest, each contestant will get five practice shots, rotate through their age group than come back and shoot 10 than 15 on a rotating basis.

Winners and runner-ups will receive a trophy. Each participate will receive a ribbon for participation.

The winners will advance at the local level to the district level held in January at Wilmington College with winners advancing on the state then nationals.

Age groups are based on age as of April 1, 2017. Contestants must be at least 8 and no older than 13. There will be separate age groups for girls and boys with divisions of 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

Girls and boys in the 8-9 age group will shoot 4 feet in front of the regulation foul line. The ball size will be 28.5 for all girl divisions and boys 8-9. It will be a regulation ball for boys age 10-11 and 12-13.

The local Elks Lodge 1139 invests in the community and particularly the young in the county, who will be the future leaders.
