Sen. Faber to seek 84th House District seat

DARKE COUNTY – Senate President Keith Faber made an announcement, at the Darke County Republican Hog Roast Sunday, that he will be seeking the 84th House District seat to be vacated by Rep. Jim Buchy at the end of 2016.

“It’s been a pleasure to represent this district, both as a state senator and representative,” Sen. Faber said. “After the unexpected retirement of Rep. Buchy, I was encouraged by many to continue finding ways to serve this district. After some thought and reflection, I decided to honor the request of the many to run for that seat.”

Rep. Buchy, endorsing Faber, said, “I first encouraged Keith Faber to run for the House in 2000, and look at what he has done for us since that time. With the upcoming election for the 84th Ohio House District seat, I again encouraged him to seek election to the House.”

“I am genuinely pleased that Keith and his family have decided to seek election to continue representing us. I know he will be the strongest possible voice for us in Columbus. I wholeheartedly endorse Keith Faber for the Ohio House of Representatives,” added Buchy.

Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) applauded Faber’s announcement.

“I fully support President Faber’s decision to run for the Ohio House in 2016,” Rosenberger said. “President Faber has been a good friend of mine and a loyal servant to the residents of his district. Together, the House and Senate have accomplished great things for Ohio, including securing $1.8 billion in income tax cuts for all Ohioans, ensuring our small businesses have an environment where they can grow and prosper and passing legislation to protect our state’s water supply. I look forward to working with him, both on the campaign trail and in the House, to continue moving Ohio in a positive direction.”

Julie Ehemann, Sidney County Commissioner, had expressed an interest in running for the seat. Faber’s announcement, however, has caused a change of heart.

“I’m stepping aside,” she said, adding, “Mr. Faber brings a lot of experience to the table. I’m sure he’ll do the region a good job.”

Faber was elected by his Senate Republican colleagues to serve as Senate President at the beginning of 2013. Because of term limits, Faber is not eligible to run for another term in the Senate.

On Oct. 8, Faber said he would not seek the U.S. House seat being vacated by John Boehner, but was keeping his options open statewide.

The 84th House District seat is open following Rep. Jim Buchy’s (R-Greenville) announcement that he is retiring at the end of 2016.
