GREENVILLE – The 2016 Area IV Envirothon competition is being co-hosted by Darke Soil and Water Conservation District and Miami Soil and Water Conservation District. The event is scheduled to take place Tuesday at Chenoweth Trails in Western Darke County.

Approximately 95 high school teams will be competing from 18 counties in southwest Ohio.

The Envirothon is a competitive, academic, outdoor team event for high school students which test their knowledge in five areas: Forestry, Aquatics, Current Environmental Issues, Soils, and Wildlife. The event is designed to encourage cooperative decision making, team building and problem solving while increasing student’s interest in the environment and our natural resources.

Ohio has been divided into five areas. Each area holds an annual competition in the spring. The top four teams from each area travel to the Ohio Envirothon in June. The top scoring team in the Ohio Envirothon is then eligible to compete in the National Envirothon competition which is being held in Canada this year.
