PIQUA, Ohio – Recently accepting appointment to serve on the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors, Edison President Dr. Doreen Larson made her first trip to Washington, D.C. to join colleagues from across the nation.

The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for community colleges at the national level and works closely with directors of state offices to inform and affect state policy. The AACC Board of Directors acts as leading advocates and liaisons for community college initiatives at the federal, state and local levels.

Dr. Larson attended the weeklong summit to complete orientation and discuss various topics of importance, including America’s College Promise Act, College Completion, and other activities that impact community colleges nationwide.

“I am excited to share the accomplishments of Ohio’s Community Colleges with my colleagues across the country as well as glean new ideas and best practices from other AACC institutions to bring back to Ohio,” said Dr. Larson.

Elected as one of 32 members of the AACC Board of Trustees, Dr. Larson serves as the co-chair of the AACC Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and is a member of the AACC Committee on Membership and Professional Development.

The mission of the AACC is to build a nation of learners by advancing America’s community colleges. The national commission supports and promotes its member colleges through policy initiatives, innovative programs, research and information and strategic outreach to business and industry and the national news media. It promotes community colleges through five strategic action areas: recognition and advocacy for community colleges; student access, learning, and success; community college leadership development; economic and workforce development; and global and intercultural education.
