GREENVILLE - Since 1776 over 41 million men and women have worn an American military uniform, of those, more than a million have given the ultimate sacrifice, said Ohio Representative Jim Buchy (R-Greenville) at an event honoring Vietnam Veterans with the Daughters of the American Revolution Fort GreeneVille Chapter.

“Vietnam is the only war the U.S. has fought that it didn’t have the resolve to win,” Buchy stated. “When our soldiers came home, they were treated not as the heroes they were, but as villains. Fifty years later, we realize that every one of them was a hero.”

A new Prisoners of War/Missing in Action flag was raised at the Studabaker Schoolhouse, just on the city limits of Greenville on Tuesday evening in honor of the upcoming Independence Day holiday.

Buchy also noted that the Fort GreeneVille Chapter was recognized by the Department of Defense Vietnam War 50th Commemoration as a commemorative partner.

“Awarded in recognition of your willingness to assist and support a grateful nation in thanking and honoring our Vietnam War Veterans and their families, and those who served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces…” was the caption on the award, said Debbie Nisonger, vice regent, in an email to The Daily Advocate. “A grateful nation thanks and honors our Vietnam War Veterans for their service, valor and sacrifice.”
