TROY - A Piqua man convicted of a sex crime against a child will spend the next four years in prison and the next 25 years registering as a tier II sex offender.
Robert W. Allen, 55, formerly of Bradford, received the sentence Monday in common pleas court.
He originally was charged with two counts of rape against a child under the age of 13 after a Miami County grand jury indicted him in February following a police investigation.
Allen pleaded to one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony, in a plea deal with prosecutors, who dismissed the rape charges.
According to court and police documents, Allen committed the offense between Nov. 4, 2010, and Nov. 4, 2012. The child victim told authorities Allen performed sexual acts on her “10 times.”
At Allen’s sentencing hearing, Judge Robert Lindeman stated that Allen’s criminal record showed he had a prior sex offense conviction involving a 6-year-old in 1995.
As a tier II sex offender, Allen must register every 180 days with the sheriff’s office where he resides, works or receives an education for 25 years following his release from prison.
He was given credit for 80 days he has already served at the Miami County Jail.
