DARKE COUNTY — The winter sports season is still in its early stages, but several Darke County athletes already are shining, including both of this week’s Daily Advocate athletes of the week.

This week’s Daily Advocate athletes of the week are Ansonia boys basketball player Dalton Subler and Versailles girls bowler Megan Monnin.

Subler helped Ansonia pick up its first win of the season against Bradford, recording a double-double with a team-high 12 points and 13 rebounds. He also had a steal in the game plus was diving on the floor and making hustle plays to save the ball from going out of bounds.

For the season Subler averages 8.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. His rebounding is best on the team.

“He has working very hard in practice so far this year, and that has improved his skills,” Ansonia boys basketball coach Darrick Barga said. “I talked with him about his work ethic, and he has taken on the challenge. He is a tough-nosed kid and fights for every rebound. For us to be successful as a team, we need him to continue this style of play for the entire season.”

Monnin helped lead the Versailles girls bowling team to a runner up finish in the Ohio Kick-Off Classic bowling tournament, which featured 28 of the best teams in the state. Monnin, along with Brooke Wehrkamp and Michael Davidson, was one of three Tiger bowlers named to the all-tournament team at the invitational.

Monnin rolled a 599 series in the Kick-Off Classic, tying for sixth individually with Wehrkamp.

So far this season, Monnin has the second best average among West Ohio High School Bowling Conference girls bowlers. In six games, she is averaging a 201.5 game.

“Megan is having a great senior season so far,” Versailles bowling coach Doug Davidson said. “She went through a funk right before the season started, but her hard work to fix a couple flaws has really paid off. She is also more relaxed this year and not putting so much pressure on herself.”

Last year Monnin helped the Lady Tigers bowling team win the WOHSBC with a perfect conference record and advance to state, finishing among the top eight teams in Ohio.
