A new year, what great expectations do we foresee. I see all of us tired, from all the bustle. Life gets back to normal, worry about social issues, how are the kids doing.

I would like to propose that we have a parade down Broadway, July 4 with the Speaker of the House portraying Anthony Wayne leading the troops. I am sure there are members of both parties willing to participate. I say we just contact the people concerned. I suppose we should have a committee look into to this. Maybe we can get the Chamber of Commerce to take the lead I know that I am willing to listen and help if I can. Maybe if enough of us Darke County Folk express an interest …..we can do it.

We are the first Treaty passed by the first United States Congress, the first expansion by the first United States Congress, The first headquarters for the United States Army who made the first parade on the Fourth of July in Darke County before we were a state. Before the treaty was signed Anthony Wayne paraded his men in front of the Fort to show case his military presence. It is what kept the warring tribes separate and stabilized the talks.

We are the start of the United States. Prior to was the United Colonies of America. We only became the United States of American at the swearing in of George Washington at his initial swearing in as President of the United States and Congress became the first United States Congress.

Folks the heritage is here we see it daily and we want the world to know we are living in a special place in history. The United States of America, the land of opportunity for all. We just have to work at this, it can be a boost to the local economy that we certainly need. Besides it may be fun to see and watch such a parade. Maybe even have a July 3 golf outings for those so inclined. Me? I would like a BBQ picnic, with friends and family in the backyard after such a parade.

Take care and may God Bless you all.
