Another nail in free speech’s coffin was driven home with Don Sterling’s banishment from the NBA.
What he said was repugnant but not illegal.
But the PC Police overreacted. They’ll make a martyr of him like A&E Network did Phil Robertson.
But a richer one. Sterling bought the LA Clippers for $12 million. He’s being forced to sell them, estimated to be worth $700 million.
The NBA’s treating him like then-NFL Commissioner Bud Selig did Arizona when MLK Day wasn’t made a holiday (he yanked them hosting a Super Bowl) or how baseball treated Marge Scott.
The Founding Fathers allowed for heated, even hateful speech in America, believing in the free marketplace of ideas.
If they could see America today, would they even recognize the Republic they gave us?
