SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP — A medical emergency might be the underlying factor in a single-vehicle crash about 10:45 a.m. Friday on US-23’s northbound exit ramp to Ida West Rd., troopers at the Monroe post, Michigan State Police, have reported.

The deceased person was identified as Earl Blosser, 63, of Greenville, Ohio, the driver of the vehicle.

His passenger, Patricia Blosser, 55, also of Greenville, Ohio, had minor injuries as a result of the crash and was treated.

Based on investigation so far, troopers learned Mr. Blosser was driving the 2010 Ford pickup northbound when he lost consciousness. Ms. Blosser tried to take control of the vehicle, exiting the freeway on the ramp to Ida West Rd. That effort failed, and the truck struck a guardrail head on.

Monroe Community Ambulance took both victims to Flower Hospital. Other first responders at the scene include Summerfield Township Fire Department and Monroe County Road Commission.

An autopsy will be performed in hopes of determining the cause of death, state police reported.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Michigan State Police at (734) 242-3500.
