GREENVILLE - In reaction to the recent fire on Dec. 27, 2013, that destroyed the cow barns at the fairgrounds, the Darke County Farmers Union is collecting funds to donate to the Darke County Agricultural Society (fair board) for the construction of new facilities.

According to Todd Rhoades, president of the Darke County Farmers Union, “We’ve established the ‘Cow Barns Fire Fund’ because several of our members have had livestock in the past in those buildings at the fair, their children have shown livestock there and then their grandchildren and in some cases their great-grandchildren have used the cow dairy palace and beef area.”

He added, “We already have $1,000 pledged and we feel that there are many farmers and businesses that are interested in helping out so that we may have new buildings in time for the 2014 fair.”

Farmers Union noted that this was an opportunity to keep the local agricultural exposition as the Great Darke County Fair. People interested in donating can stop by the local Farmers Union office at 421 Public Square, Greenville, or telephone Holly at 937-548-3240 or 937-547-0681.
