ARCANUM - Arcanum Old Fashioned Days returns this coming weekend with some added attractions.
Judy Foureman, mayor of Arcanum and the president of the Arcanum Area Business Association, which organizes the festival, gets underway officially at 4 p.m. Friday and continues through early Sunday evening.
New this year, according to Foureman, are a petting zoo, which includes exotic animals and reptiles, all three days in the children’s area at the end of West George and Sycamore streets; and craft and quilting demonstrations all day Saturday at the Historical Society.
The event will also include a golf outing on Saturday at Beechwood Golf Course with registration at noon and a 1 p.m. tee time.
On tap for Friday are the grand opening ceremony at 5:45 p.m. at Veteran’s Park, featuring keynote speaker Peyton Kreitzer singing the National Anthem; Dale Clark Karaoke in front of Miller’s Tavern on West George Street from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; and The Hathaways with their classic and original rock at Veteran’s Park from 8 to 11 p.m.
Scheduled for Saturday will be a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Arcanum Volunteer Fire Department at the field house on North Main; a parade at 11 a.m. with grand marshal Winston Brumbaugh, starting at the school; chicken barbecue at the field house on North Main sponsored by the Lions Club from 11:30 a.m. until sold out; the Little Miss and Mr. Yesteryear pageant (with emcee Amber Profitt) at Veterans’ Park at 12:30 p.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull at 1:30 p.m. at the west end of George Street; the group Harmony performing from 2 to 4 p.m. at Veteran’s Park; fhc Fellowship performance from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Veteran’s Park; and Blue Lou and the Mafia with classic rock and “the Nastiest Blues in Town,” from 8 to 11 p.m. at Veteran’s Park.
Sunday’s activities will include a car, truck and motorcycle show on the Troutwine Auto sales car lot on North Main with registration at 9 a.m. and judging at noon; Faith United Methodist Church’s contemporary service at Veteran’s Park at 1:45 a.m.; fhc Fellowship church service at the corner of West George and North Main at 10:30 a.m.; the Egg Drop at 12:30 p.m. in front of Veteran’s park; corn hole toss tournament with a 1 p.m. registration and playing at 2 p.m. in front of Miller’s Tavern on North High Street and sponsored by Pitsburg Fire Department; D&A Music performing from 1 to 3 p.m. at Veteran’s Park; Tip Tap Toe School of Dance performance from 4 to 5 p.m. at Veteran’s Park; and the Reverse Raffle drawing at 5 p.m., also at Veteran’s Park.
Additional highlights at Old Fashioned Days will be the Arcanum Public Library’s book sale (May 15-23) from 9 am. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; and the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society (AWTHS) “Spring Fling” yard and garden and bake sale with a mini flea market in the white tent behind the house from 4 to 8 p.m Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Rides will be provided again by Big O Amusements.
The festival closes at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 6 p.m. on Friday.
