DARKE COUNTY - The Darke County Fairboard recently approved a line of credit to use for additional expenses related to the new Beef and Dairy Building.
The former Beef and Dairy building burnt down last winter and since then the board has hustled to get it prepared for The Great Darke County Fair that begins Fri., Aug. 15.
The new building is on schedule to have it usable for the fair, reported Daryl Riffle, Fair Manager of the Darke County Agricultural Society.
The board approve the line of credit to use for the difference between the insurance money received and the board’s share for the costs of the new building.
“If we need to use it, it will be there for us. It’s a typical line of credit that businesses can use,” he said.
The board also accepted a livestock traffic plan for the new building. The committee on the livestock traffic plan will put a map and plan together that could be available in the next few weeks, no later than July 19, Riffle explained.
The board also approved the purchase of four new shuttles for the fairgrounds.
“Those are going to replace the shuttles destroyed by the fire,” he said. The costs for the purchases will partly come from the insurance and the board will have to pay some of the balance. Approximately $40,000 will be paid for by the board, he said. “They will be here for the use at the fair.”
The next fairboard meeting is set for Weds., July 16 at 7:30 p.m. The board meets at the Fair Secretary/Managers Office under the Grandstand on the fairgrounds off Sweitzer Street in Greenville.
