It’s January and changes are happening. We have changed from the year 2013 to the year 2014. So far we have had a winter more like the ones I grew up with than what we have had in the last few years. If we can get past the extreme cold temperatures, drifting snow and icy roads, the snow is very beautiful. The snowflakes are so big you can almost make out their shapes as they fall from the sky. The temperature is frigid and ice seems to hug the trees limbs. But if you are someone who still doesn’t find the joy in that scene, relax because spring is just around the corner. Warm temperatures and sunshine will be a welcome change for most of us and will be here before we know it.
The beginning of a new year can bring new beginnings to your life as well. Most of us go through the reorganization routine such as cleaning out our closets, drawers and cabinets and then passing along items that we no longer wear or use. We clean out our files as we prepare for tax time. We rearrange the furniture. Good clean starts.
But new beginnings can also be live changing events such as changing careers, moving to a new area or new home, marriage, divorce, or children. The list goes on and on. It’s important to grasp change and not be afraid of it. Change happens sometimes by choice and sometimes it just happens. Life is a series of changes.
Sometimes we need to make a change in our lives and we are afraid to make a move. We may not be happy but we get into a comfort zone and are apprehensive about making a change even when we need to. We fear the worst, that we may be making a mistake, or; that we may fail. There are times that not trying and being unhappy is our mistake, our failure. A leap of faith is required for our happiness. That is so for all areas of our lives. We only live once, if we don’t try anything different we may be missing the best days of our lives.
I’ve heard it said, “You’ve made your bed, now sleep in it”. The meaning of that in my mind is, to take responsibility for the decisions you make, it doesn’t mean that you can never make another decision or take another chance.
So if there is something different that you want to experience in life, do what you must, to make it happen. Don’t let any opportunity pass you by. I am saying this to you as I am about to Embarq on changes in my own life. Let’s live our lives to the fullest and embrace change in our lives.
