Have you heard of “Pay It Forward” weekend? Beginning this Friday through Sunday everyone is encouraged to do at least one random act of kindness (more than one is even better). All you have to do is do something for someone or some organization without expecting anything in return. Pay for a stranger’s meal, send someone a card, or volunteer some time. The ideas are endless. All it takes is a spark to get a fire going. Can you change someone’s world this weekend? Who knows, it might be your life that gets changed. The most important number is the ONE person, family, or cause that YOU touch. Spread the word and help make 2014 start strong for not only the one or more that you touch, but for you personally.

Winter can often leave us feeling depressed, especially once the bustles of the holidays have passed. We don’t feel like getting out due to the icy cold weather, the sun doesn’t shine nearly enough, and we learned this week a new term about our winter weather called the polar vortex!
To brighten your moods for a cold winter day prepare a list of activities ready to combat the winter blahs. Here are a few ideas that you might add to your list. 1) Create a book list you have wanted to read this winter; perhaps it is something you never had time to read in the past or the latest bestseller. 2) Plan at least one special party for your family and friends. 3) Winter brings with it a new year and the chance to start fresh; use the winter to plan your summer vacation, looking forward to a coming trip during the summer is a great way to boost your spirits. 4) Winter is the perfect time to do that extra cleaning by repainting a room, cleaning out a closet, and/or redecorating. Being productive will leave you with a sense of satisfaction when winter blues tempt you to be lazy. 5) Volunteering is a great activity for winter! Reach out and help others, it will not only help others, but lift your own spirits as well. 6) If you enjoy gardening, then why not spend time planning your spring flower beds and vegetable patches. Order your seeds online, gather your tools ahead of time, and dream about your future blooms. 7) Put some freshness and light in your home; whether it is some fresh flowers on the kitchen table or letting in the sunshine to combat the winter gloom! 8) Bring your family closer together have a family game night or just spend an evening catching up enjoying each others’ company. Most of all enjoy the beauty of the season. Get out and enjoy the cold weather and the winter sights because every winter is different and unique and spring will roll around soon enough!
