COVINGTON – The Greenville Lady Wave fell to Covington on the Lady Buccs’ home court 45-26.


The Lady Wave jumped out to a 2-0 lead just three seconds into the game with Haleigh Luce dropping in back-to-back free throws.


A Luce basket and a Rachel Foreman bucket off a Karlee Lennen assist had the Green Wave leading 6-0 at 6:20 in the first quarter, bringing a timeout from the Covington bench.


The Lady Buccs got back in the game to lead 9-6 before Foreman hit a basket at 0:30, bringing the first quarter to a close with the Wave trailing 9-8.


Greenville jumped back into a 10-9 lead, opening second quarter play with a Lennen stick back.


The Lady Buccs added 12 unanswered points to lead 21-10 at 2:10 on the second quarter clock.


Greenville used 1:10 to cut the Buccs’ lead to 23-15 at 0:30 with back-to-back Lennen free throws, a Luce free throw and a Covington intentional foul, sending Lennen to the charity stripe to go 2-for-2 once again.


As time run out on the first quarter clock the Lady Wave trailed 24-15.


The Green Wave got their first score of the second half with Luce hitting a turn-around jumper in the paint with an assist from Lennen for a 26-17 Buccs lead at 5:12 on the clock.


Covington used an 11-0 run to close out third quarter play with a 37-19 lead.


The Lady Buccs opened fourth quarter play extending the 11-0 run to 19 unanswered points, opening a 45-19 lead.


Greenville got on the board at 3:02 in the final period, starting a 7-0 scoring run to close out the game beginning with Chloe McKinney hitting 2-for-2 at the line followed with a Foreman free throw.


Emily Beanblossom hit a bucket followed with back-to-back Sara Wenning free throws for the game’s final points giving the Lady Buccs a 45-26 win.


The Lady Wave connected on a respectable 14-of-21 at the free throw line. Covington went 15-of-28 at the line while hitting six 3-pointers on the day.
