PITSBURG — Franklin Monroe had an early lead but couldn’t maintain it as the Jet baseball team lost 5-4 to Covington on Wednesday.
Franklin Monroe struck first with a run in the bottom half of the first inning. After Covington tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, Franklin Monroe regained the lead with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Covington tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth and took its first lead with a run in the top of the fifth. Franklin Monroe tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, but Covington scored the game-winning run in the sixth for the 5-4 Buccaneer victory.
Franklin Monroe had seven hits and two errors in the game. Covington had 10 hits and three errors.
Zach Hyre was the losing pitcher for FM as he pitched a complete game, allowing five runs including three unearned runs on 10 hits, four walks and nine strikeouts.
Hudson Rich was 1-for-2 with a RBI for the Jets. Daniel Wiseman went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Hyre was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Landon Peters went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Justin Bingham had a hit, and Nick Lavy scored a run.
Franklin Monroe fell to 0-4 with the loss.
