PITSBURG — Newton’s bats got hot midway through Thursday’s baseball game against Franklin Monroe as the Jets lost 12-6 in a Cross County Conference match up.
Franklin Monroe led early with a run in the top half of the first inning. Newton tied it at 1-1 in the third and scored five runs in the fourth to go up 6-1.
Franklin Monroe answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth, but Newton again scored five in the fifth for an 11-4 lead. Franklin Monroe cut the deficit to 11-6 in the bottom of the fifth, and Newton scored the game’s final run in the top of the seventh for the 12-6 final score.
FM had eight hits and one error in the game while Newton had 10 hits and two errors.
Justin Bingham was charged with the loss as he allowed three earned runs on two hits, six walks and two strikeouts in three innings. Cade McGlinch also pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and one unearned run on five hits and one walk.
Sam Napier went one inning, giving up four earned runs on one hit, three walks and a strikeout. Nick Lavy pitched and gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks without recording an out.
Bingham led the Franklin Monroe offense as he was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and all for of the Jets’ RBI. Kayle Oswalt was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
Hudson Rich went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Napier was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run scored. Ross Burnett scored a run while Lavy, Landon Peters and Daniel Wiseman each recorded a hit.
Franklin Monroe fell to 1-9 with the loss.
