UNION CITY — The Mississinawa Valley baseball team lost 18-12 to Newton in a Cross County Conference game on Friday.


MV got off to a fast start with four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and seven in the second for an 11-2 lead as Newton scored one run in each of the first two innings.


Newton then got hot with three runs in the third and six in the fourth to tie the game at 11-11. Newton took the lead with three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh. Mississinawa Valley capped off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh for the 18-12 final score.


Mississinawa Valley had nine hits and 10 errors in the game. Newton had 14 hits and seven errors on the day.


Zach Armstrong pitched three innings for MV, allowing six earned runs and two unearned runs on seven hits, five walks and four strikeouts.


Colyn Nelson went two innings, allowing one earned run and five unearned runs on two hits, three walks and no strikeouts. Dalton Rinderle also pitched two innings, allowing one earned run and three unearned runs on five hits, no walks and no strikeouts.


Rinderle went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored for Mississinawa Valley. Dane Blumenstock was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.


Andrew Johns was 1-for-3 with a home run. Tyler Connor was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Tyler Jenkinson was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
