UNION CITY, Ind. — The Ansonia baseball team lost 14-3 in a five-inning run rule to Union City, Indiana, at the Union City Wood Bat Invitational on Saturday.
Ansonia scored first with a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning but after that was limited to a single run in the fourth. Union City scored nine runs in the first inning, two in the second and three in the third.
Ansonia had three hits and six errors in the game. Union City had 13 hits and one error.
Alex Hughes was the losing pitcher for Ansonia as he pitched 2.1 innings, allowing 11 earned runs and three unearned runs on 11 hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Logan Miller pitched the other 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Hughes led the Ansonia offense as he was 2-for-2 with a RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Darien Burk was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Dane Wentworth walked once, stole a base and scored a run.
