UNION CITY, Ind. — Ansonia out-slugged Mississinawa Valley to win 19-16 in a nine-inning game at the Union City Wood Bat Invitational on Saturday in Union City, Indiana.
Ansonia had 18 hits in the game while Mississinawa Valley collected 13. Both teams made seven errors in the nine-inning affair.
Both teams got off to a fast started with Ansonia scoring two runs in the top of the first and MV scoring four in the bottom half of the inning.
After Ansonia regained the lead with four runs in the second, Mississinawa responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-6.
Ansonia tied the game in the top of the third, and Mississinawa Valley again retook the lead with three runs in the third for a 10-7 advantage.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the only inning neither team scored, Ansonia scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 10-10.
Ansonia retook the lead with four runs in the top of the seventh, and MV forced extra innings by tying the game at 14-14 in the bottom half of the inning.
Both teams scored two runs in the eighth inning to force the ninth, in which Ansonia scored three runs and shut down MV for the 19-16 Ansonia win.
Alex Hughes went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and five RBI for Ansonia. Cody Burnfield was 4-for-6 with two doubles, a walk, a stolen base and four runs scored.
Dalton Subler went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a walk, a RBI and four runs scored. Dane Wentworth was 2-for-5 with a double, two walks, four stolen bases, four runs scored and three RBI.
Cody Teegarden went 1-for-3 with three walks, two RBI and a run scored. Darien Burk was 2-for-5 with a walk and a run scored. Max Muir was 2-for-6 with a walk and a run scored.
Logan Miller was 1-for-5 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored. Trent Rader stole a base and scored two runs.
Mississinawa Valley’s Dalton Rinderle was 3-for-3 with a double, three walks, three stolen bases, three runs scored and four RBI. Tyler Jenkinson went 2-for-6 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored.
Carson Stump went 2-for-5 with a walk, five stolen bases, four runs scored and a RBI. Tyler Conner was 2-for-5 with a walk, a stolen base, a RBI and two runs scored.
Andrew Johns was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Dane Blumenstock was 1-for-5 with a walk, three stolen bases, two runs scored and a RBI.
Trent Gilbert had a hit, and Cayden Cox scored a run.
Muir was the winning pitcher for Ansonia as he went four innings, allowing three earned runs and three unearned runs on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Subler pitched five innings, allowing one earned runs and nine unearned runs on six hits, six walks and four strikeouts.
MV’s Gilbert was the losing pitcher as he threw one inning and allowing one earned run and one unearned run on two hits, two walks and a strikeout. Johns pitched two innings, allowing five earned runs and one unearned run on seven hits and one walk.
Zach Armstrong pitched three innings for MV, allowing three earned runs and five unearned runs on five hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Colyn Nelson went three innings and allowed three unearned runs on four hits, four walks and a strikeout.
