BELLEFONTAINE — The Versailles baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Bellefontaine on Saturday, losing 5-4 and 7-0.
In the first game Versailles out-hit Bellefontaine 12 to 10 but five errors cost the Tigers.
Versailles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning and added another run int he second. After Bellefontaine cut into the lead in the third, Versailles scored two more in the fourth to lead 4-1. But Bellefontaine tied the game in the fifth and won with a run in the seventh.
Austin Knapke was the losing pitcher as he gave up one run on two hits, one walk and no strikeouts. Starter Brett McEldowney went six innings and gave up four unearned runs on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Jace Barga was 2-for-3 for Versailles with a triple, a walk, a run scored and two RBI. McEldowney went 2-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored.
Jared Heitkamp was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Nic Moorman was 2-for-3, and Dan Borchers was 2-for-4.
Derek Borhorst went 1-for-4 with a triple while Jake Wenning was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Mike Davidson drove in a run, too.
The second game didn’t go as well for Versailles as the Tigers only managed one hit in the 7-0 loss. Bellefontaine had 12 hits, and both teams made one error.
Bellefontaine scored three runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and two in the sixth while holding Versailles scoreless.
Heitkamp had Versailles’ lone hit in the game.
Wenning was the losing pitcher as he went four innings and allowed four earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits, two walks and a strikeout. Heitkamp pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
