2014-15 high school sports begin this week with 1st golf matches

DARKE COUNTY — Competition in the 2014-15 high school school sports season will officially start on Wednesday as the Ohio High School Athletic Association golf season begins.


Golf is the first OHSAA sport permitted to compete in regular season contests. Cross country, soccer, girls tennis, volleyball and football will begin competition this month as well.


The opening day of the 2014 golf season will include the Arcanum, Greenville and Versailles girls golf teams traveling to Echo Hill Golf Course in Piqua for Covington’s Lady Buccs Eagle Invitational. They will tee off at 8 a.m. Wednesday.


Ansonia also will compete on the opening day of the 2014 golf season as the Tigers travel to face Fort Loramie at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Arrowhead Golf Course in Minster.


Friday will be a big day for local golf competition as the Cross County Conference holds its boys golf preview at 8:30 a.m. at Stillwater Valley Golf Club in Versailles.


Also on Friday the Greater Western Ohio Conference will hold its boys and girls preseason golf meets at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum. The boys will tee off at 8:30 a.m. with the girls competition set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
