The museum is hosting a reminiscent afternoon of Local Baseball from the ’40s and ’50s.
Versailles’ Young Life organization is offering to spread mulch as a fundraiser.
And, Living Waters Ministries is hosting a Refit Revolution (dance exercise program) fund-raiser.
My good friend, Larry Brown, has finally decided to slow down and enjoy a semi-retirement. I’ve often wanted to spend more time chatting with him, but since he and I were always working, that was never possible. I imagine I’ll see even less of him in the future, but I’m happy for him.
Over the years many of my acquaintances and friends have moved away or on; Mark Retz, Merlin Collins, Percy Grilliot, Dave Magoto, Sue Christian, Steve and Charlene Subler, Mike Ernst, Mark Pax, Doug Ahlers, and others. That’s life, especially as I get closer to retirement age I begin to understand the cycle of life.
For everything there is a season and a time for every matter. A time to plant, a time pluck up what is planted; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time to save, and a time to spend; a time to buy, and a time to sell.
As a sage longtime friend once told me; “I think everyone outta be in business.” Truly, there is so much to be learned from being in business. I can safely say you never see or know it all. There’s always a new wrinkle to keep things fresh.
Without a doubt the most rewarding aspect of being in business is the people while the most challenging aspect of being in business is the people. As the saying goes, it’s a great life if you don’t weaken. In business or not we must all stay strong and continue to hope in what tomorrow will bring.

Brown’s Sweet Shop will remain open Thursday – Sunday (closed Monday – Wednesday).
This Sunday, enjoy a buffet style breakfast from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Versailles Eagles. Also Sunday, the VHS band is holding a bake sale from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the cafetorium.
Monday beginning at 1 p.m. the Versailles Museum is hosting a Share, Show and Tell of Local Baseball from the ’40s and ’50s. Also Monday the Versailles Health Care Center is hosting a free total joint replacement information class at 6 p.m.
April 30, Living Waters Ministry is hosting a dance fitness fundraising event “Refit Revolution.” For more information contact Carolyn Combs at 423-8637.
Versailles Young Life will spread mulch on the weekends of May 14 and 21 to raise money for summer camp. You must order your mulch from Groff Mowing and Lawn Care at 526-3380 then contact Lisa Cromwell at 621-0917 to schedule a crew of adult supervised teens. (My compliments to Young Life for offering a fundraiser that works in unison with local business and not against them.)
