Union City News: Upcoming events slated for city

First Friday is set for Friday from 5:15-7 p.m. Serving as host is the City of Union City, Indiana, at the Community Room located at 103 N. Columbia St., in Union City. A time to network, unwind and share, join the fun. Snacks, soft drinks and bottled water will be available. There is no charge for this event.

Celebrating 200th Anniversary of Indiana – March 19, 2016. Please join the Preservation Society of Union City Indiana-Ohio, Inc. in celebrating the 200th anniversary of Indiana in downtown Union City at the Community Room, 103 N. Columbia St. March 19, 2016 at 6 p.m. in downtown Union City. The evening will include a fun evening sharing the heritage and artifacts of Indiana on the Prairie for $25 per person, reservations required. Contact Ted Leahey at 765-964-5370.

A live re-enactment of life in the 1800s will be entertaining as you listen to Pioneer Rick tell of his adventures as a settler in Indiana’s wilderness. Life was good to this stranger in his new life here on the Indiana Prairie. Author Ann Alexander will read selections from her recently published book The Prairie Farmer. The evening will include a traditional dinner that you could have had living in rural Indiana.

In addition, there will be some Indiana “brew” and light hors’ d’oeuvres preceding the meal in the Red Room as you visit the Old Hotel museum and listen to some campfire music. In the Community Room there will be a display that includes toys, tools, furnishings, clothing and items from Prairie Days. Items will be from private collections, but there will also be items for sale from the various Antique Stores in Union City.

Report of Union City Lions Club

At a recent meeting of the Union City Lions Club Program Chair Larry Amspaugh introduced Union City, Indiana, City Manager Monte Poling. Poling discussed city projects including: Bike/walking trail, senior housing, sewage upgrade, downtown park. Applying for grants for funding projects and the city to receive award for Clean Energy initiatives.
