Versailles News: Truth of our times

0

So often we become programmed by what we have heard in the news, within our circle of friends, on talk shows, etc. We hear the same phrases over and over until we begin believing them. For example we found ourselves using the term “fixed income” for people that were receiving social security or a pension, even though individuals who worked a consist number of hours each week were also on a fixed income.

For the last umpteen years we have worried about being politically correct in addressing a sect of people who prefer a specific title. I grew up learning certain terms or phrases were insensitive, unkind or showed one’s ignorance, but now it seems we could be part of a lawsuit or possibly terminated for offending or hurting someone’s feelings.

Freedom of speech can only take you so far; we’re free to burn the flag, to protest fervently and to blaspheme God, but in a court of law you can be held in contempt, silenced and fined. This world is not perfect nor will it be made perfect by making laws designed by imperfect people. But to be intolerant of others because things are not stated as we like or a task is not completed within our time frame or to our liking is selfish and inexcusably wrong.

We, by society norms, have become “ME” orient
