Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society invites the community to join them this Thursday evening, May 11 at 7 p.m. for “Postmarked Arcanum” presented by Arcanum Post Master Gary Naylor Gary became a letter carrier in 1990, working at the Arcanum Post Office since 2006. Following in the footsteps of his father who had a 36 year career in Dayton, Gary is a graduate of Meadowdale High School. Gary will present a brief history of the Postal Service, some local history and changes he has seen the past 20 years. Through his career, Naylor has collected Postal Service memorabilia. He will share some of his collection Thursday evening. You will also be able see the 1852 post master’s standing desk and mail sorting box from the John Smith Co. Store where Arcanum’s early post office was located. The desk and sorting box are on permanent display at AWTHS. A little trivia from the past, Harold Rosser and Sylvester Rynearson, two local residents, were positive there was only one Arcanum in the world. While in Paris, France, on June 17, 1960 Harold sent Sylvester a letter from his hotel addressed only, “Arcanum”. Someone along the way added “Ohio” to the address on the envelope. The letter did arrive in Arcanum and was delivered to the Rynearson mailbox.

Don’t forget to book the AWTHS for your graduation party, shower or alumni party this summer. They do rentals for small groups, please contact Carolyn Furlong call 937-548-6556.

Arcanum Old Fashioned Days are rapidly approaching for 2017. They are from Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21. Along with all of the music, exciting vendors and incredible food, this year’s festival will feature rides by Cromer United Amusements out of Eaton, Ohio. They are owned by Val and Beth Gorham and are a third-generation family-owned business. They feature up to 20 rides, family games and concessions and they plan to bring about 15 rides to Old Fashioned Days. Eight rides will be focused for the little riders, while the other seven will provide excitement for older kids.

Pre-sale tickets and armbands are available at a number of businesses in Arcanum. Tickets may be purchased in advance of the festival at a price of $15 for 24 tickets, a savings of $5 over the price at Old Fashioned Days. Armbands may also be purchased in advance at a price of $15, which is also a savings of $5 over prices during the festival. An armband may only be used during one of three time-periods during Old Fashioned Days; Saturday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, a $10 “kiddie-ride only” armband will be available on Sunday, May 21 for use from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. No pre-sale available of the Kiddie-Ride armband.

ickets and arm-bands may be purchased at the following businesses in Arcanum: Ben Franklin, Sutton’s, Belle Fiole Tanning & Spa, Greenville National Bank, Second National Bank and Miller’s Tavern.

Additionally, any purchase of pre-sale tickets or armbands will enter you in a drawing for one of four gifts cards. One gift card will be given away each Saturday leading up to Old Fashioned Days (Apr 29, May 6 and May 13) and the final card will be drawn Thursday, May 18. The four gift cards are $10 Sutton’s, $20 Dollar General, $25 Regal Cinemas and $25 AMC Theaters. Arcanum Old Fashioned Days is proudly sponsored by the Arcanum Area Business Association.
