Arcanum News: Fall fun around the village

The Pitsburg Church of the Brethren will host Gene Sherfy in concert on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Gene is from Muncie, Indiana, and has been singing Gospel Music since 1975. Before striking out on his own, he has sung with three different gospel groups, including “Alpha and Omega,” and has toured several states sharing the word of God in song. Although he specializes in Southern Gospel music, he can mix in some of the old popular tunes that stirs the memories of an age long past. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served following the concert. The church is located at the west edge of Pitsburg, Ohio, at 8376 Pitsburg-Laura Road.

Happy brthday to former resident Betty Sease! The family of Betty Sease met at Charlotte’s Catering in Eaton to celebrate the birthday and life of Betty Sease who was born Oct. 9 to Delbert and Inez Brumbaugh. Family and guests in attendance were: Husband Dale Sease, along with daughters Shanda Sease-Gunter and Annette (Rex) Stewart, and daughter-in-law Linda Sease. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren also in attendance were Tracy Sease, Ben Sease, Kurt and Jackie Carothers; Michelle Pugh along with daughter Samantha Seale, daughter Lilliana and friend Dillon; Julie and Donnie Langford and daughter Jessica, Rachel Castle and husband Shaun, and Kenneth Stewart and wife Tanya with children Lily, Elijah, Chloe, and Jade. Special guests included Coleen Beasecker, Hazel Boone, and Ellie Weimer.

After dinner, two special presentations were given by Betty’s daughters. Shanda made a family photo quilt which she presented along with a photo album. Annette wrote her parents family history, stories, and genealogy and presented the book “Every Family Has a Story-Welcome To Ours.” Rachel Castle and Kenneth Stewart served as emcees. Coleen Beasecker said a few words about the name “Betty Jean” and the significance of a Godly heritage and importance of family. Cards were presented to the honored guest by the family and each wrote about a special memory in their card. Betty graduated from Monroe High School in 1943 and married Dale in 1944. They had lived on the farm most of their life, moved to Arcanum in 1978 and now reside at the village of the Brethren Home. A nice and memorable time was enjoyed by all with many laughs and recalling stories and memories of the family.

Scott and Kristen (Smith) Adkins welcomed the birth of their daughter, Blaine Akley Adkins, on Aug. 22. Blaine arrived at 9:31 p.m. weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Blaine is named after two Army Rangers to honor Scott’s service in the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Scott and Kristen currently live in Clark, Wyoming. Kristen is a 2004 graduate of Arcanum High School and the daughter of John and Gale Smith.

More fall fun to experience with the family – Brumbaugh Fruit/Fun Farm! The apples pumpkins, and cider (and an apple fritter or two) are ready to be experienced. Fall weekend hours are Saturdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 7 p.m. every weekend through Nov. 1 and 2.

Don’t forget this weekend is another fundraiser for the Jason Daugherty Family on Oct. 3 from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Arcanum VFW. There will be live music, dinner, and a 50/50 raffle/auction. Tickets are $3 cover and $5 for dinner.

Have you noticed the Arcanum Garden Club has been busy again – this time changing over the flowerpots on the corners uptown and on the bridge with fall decorations? Thanks ladies, they look beautiful!
