ARCANUM – Tri-Village jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead on Arcanum before the home team responded, and the Trojans played from behind night as the Patriots left town with a 58-32 win.

Knox Morris scored the first four points of the game and Gavin Richards added five points followed by a fielder from Trace Couch to put the PATS up 11-0.

Arcanum finally got on the board at 3:37 when Andrew Baker hit a triple … but Couch rattled off six more points in the paint to put the PATS up 17-4 to end the first quarter.

Tri-Village got it going in the open floor in the second quarter with Tyler VanWinkle and Richards both getting to the rim and scoring six points each.

“Their pressure on our guards caused us problems, and those early turnovers set the tone for the game tonight,” Arcanum boys basketball coach Marcus Bixler said.

With the Patriots up 27-4 Trojan freshman Wade Meeks hit back-to-back treys to close the gap to 27-10 … but the Patriots ended the first half with a 32-11 lead.

In the third quarter Tri-Village pounded the ball inside to Couch for eight points, and he would end the game with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

“We shared the ball really well as a team tonight and did a nice job of finding the open man and getting touches to our big man in the middle,” Tri-Village coach Josh Sagester said.

Offensively things didn’t get any better for Arcanum after the break. In fact the Trojans only scored two points in the third period and trailed 47-13.

“Defensively this might be as focused we have been as a collective group all year, and for three quarters our defense was special,” Sagester said.

Arcanum shot the ball well in the fourth quarter, connecting on four triples – two by Austin Baker, one by Evan Atchley and one by Brandon Riffell to help Arcanum win the final quarter 19-11, but the Trojans fell short on the scoreboard 58-32.

“We have had the opportunity to play Tri-Village enough that you know what’s coming at you, and we had a good week of practice … but the bottom line, they were able to impose their will on us, on both ends of the floor,” Bixler concluded.

With the win Tri-Village goes to 9-1 on the year and 5-0 in the conference. The Patriots will host Ponitz tonight for their Hall of Fame night.

Arcanum falls to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Trojans will host Dixie on Saturday.
