UNION CITY – The Ansonia softball team run ruled Mississinawa Valley 22-3 in a Cross County Conference game on Thursday.

In the top of the first Ansonia’s Katelynn Overholser cracked it out to center field for a single, scoring Monica Stover and Trinity Henderson. After back-to-back singles by Taylor Thwaits and Brooke Neal, Molly Walters and Abby Helmke both drove in runs for the Tigers.

After Jailyn Thwaits singled, Stover came up for her second time in the inning and hit a RBI single to score Helmke and make it 7-0.

Mississinawa Valley got a pair of base runners in the bottom half of the inning on a Bailey Johnson single and a walk to Paxton Scholl but couldn’t get in a run, keeping the score 7-0.

In the second Madison Young drew a walk and Overholser singled, setting up a two-RBI triple by Walters.

A few batters later Jailyn Thwaits reached base on an error and then Stover was hit by a pitch. Henderson then hit a triple to center. Alyssa Armock then hit a RBI single to center to make it 14-0.

In the third inning Ansonia added seven more runs and Mississinawa Valley scored two, making it 21-2.

After a scoreless fourth, Ansonia’s Emily Gariety was hit by the pitch in the top of the fifth. Kayla Saintignon and Henderson singled, setting up a RBI single by Armock to make it 22-2.

In the bottom of the fifth Leslie Dirksen doubled to left field. Taydem Elson hit a RBI triple to the left field fence for a 22-3 score.

“It was a bad day with the rain,” Ansonia coach Floyd Jenkins said. “We came out strong, though. We had a few players get in for a few innings that have not been able to play games for a little while. Trinity Henderson had a great game at pitching. Henderson is one of our freshmen and with small hands. She did a great job at gripping the ball and getting it where we needed her to.”
