Gymnasts compete at sectional championships


Gymnasts from Darke and Shelby counties completed their seasons on Saturday at the Ohio High School Athletic Association district meet. LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – For their final competition, the Darke and Shelby county high school gymnastics teams competed at the Southwest Ohio district championships on Saturday at Lakota East High School.

Competing for Arcanum, senior Emma Smith had a very productive final meet. She achieved an 8.35 on beam to place 27th out of 94 gymnasts and 8.25 on floor and a total increase in her all-around from Dayton City Championships of 1.43 total points.

Arcanum freshman Cheyenne White also had a very good meet, achieving 2.53 point increase in her all-around for a total of 30.925, her season best. She improved on floor and finished with an 8.325, her best all season.

Leighana Rautsaw from Franklin Monroe did well on both vault and floor, scoring a 8.20 on floor, an improvement from last meet.

For Greenville, Sydney Oda had her last meet of her career had an improvement on both vault and floor.
