Greenville softball signups underway

GREENVILLE – The 2017 Greenville Girls Softball Association season is nearing as the local youth organization prepares for its 45th season in Greenville.

Applications have been released through Greenville City Schools, local private schools, pre-schools as well as the YMCA in Greenville. Completed applications may be sent to: GGSA, P.O. Box 1141, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

GGSA sign up days are scheduled for March 4, 11 and 18 from noon-2:30 p.m. at Stebbins Field. Officers will be available each day in the concession stand to answer any questions concerning the upcoming season.

The organization also has an online application available at www.ggsaonline.com. Slow-pitch applications are due March 19 while fast pitch applications are due March 25 to guarantee placement on a team.

GGSA Meet The Team sponsored by Shaun Hayes Berkshire Hathaway is scheduled to be held in the Youth Building at the Darke County Fairgrounds on March 31.

Leagues include, T-Ball (4-6 years old), Munchkin (7-8), Minor (9-11), Junior (12-14) and Senior (15-19). All slow pitch games are played at Stebbins Field in Greenville.

Fast Pitch includes third/fourth grade, fifth/sixth grade and seventh/eighth grade. GGSA participates in the Cross County Fast Pitch League, which is a local recreational travel league which focuses on the fundamentals of fast pitch softball. Each fast pitch league has an end of season weekend tournament.

The Greenville Girls Softball Association has offered slow pitch and fast pitch softball to all Darke County girls since 1972. Last season nearly 600 girls participated directly in GGSA activities at Stebbins Field.

Stebbins Field is home to the Greenville Girls Softball Association and is located on State Route 49 North in Greenville. Besides GGSA activities which includes the traditional summer league and fall fast pitch league, Stebbins Field and Lady Wave Stadium hosts the Greenville high school and junior high Lady Wave softball games, the Recreational Cross County Fast Pitch League, Ohio Wave ASA Summer Smackdown travel tournament, USSSA 10U/12U Rustbuster National Qualifier, the Darke County church coed league and GGSA adult coed leagues throughout the season.
