3 Versailles wrestlers qualify for OHSAA state tournament

TROY – Three Versailles wrestlers punched their tickets to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III state tournament on Saturday at Hobart Arena.

Versailles senior Tanner Bey finished as the runner up in the 145 pound class, senior Bo Bey finished as the runner up in the 182 pound class and senior Jonathan Moorman finished third in the 170 pound class to qualify for the state tournament.

Versailles freshman Cael Bey in the 106 pound class, Arcanum sophomore Ethin Hoffman in the 120 pound class and Versailles junior Preston Platfoot in the 126 pound class each placed fifth in their divisions to finish as state alternates.

Tanner Bey began his road to state qualification by pinning Ridgedale junior Steven Loper in 1:14, he then beat Allen Eat junior Luke Brown 9-4, he beat Triad senior Zack Zizzo 12-6, and he was pinned by Mechanicsburg senior Tanner Smith in 1:58 in the championship match.

Bo Bey pinned Blanchester sophomore Steven Latchford in 3:39, beat Columbus Grove junior Enoch Jones with a 20-1 technical fall, beat Ottawa-Glandorf senior Tyler Ebbeskotte 5-3 in overtime and then lost 3-1 to Patrick Henry freshman Wil Morrow in the championship match.

Moorman pinned Fairbanks junior Trevor Chippas in 4:55, beat Bethel-Tate junior Owen Holtke 9-4, lost 6-0 to Delphos St. John’s senior Brett Vonderwell, beat Coldwater senior Tyler Hemmelgarn in a 13-5 major decision and then beat Ottawa-Glandorf sophomore Danny Rosales 12-6.

Cael Bey pinned Mechanicsburg freshman in 34 seconds, lost 6-0 to Greeneview sophomore Devan Hendricks, beat Lincolnview junior Luke Bullinger in a 10-0 major decision, beat Covington sophomore Dolan Young 2-0, lost 2-0 to Legacy Christian freshman Wyatt Riddle and beat Wayne Trace sophomore Tyler Bauer by default.

Hoffman beat Madison Plains senior James Violet by an 11-2 major decision, beat Versailles sophomore Jacob Poling 8-3, was pinned in 21 seconds by Miami East junior Graham Shore, lost 11-8 to Ottawa-Glandorf senior Le`on Palomo and then beat Blanchester senior Kyle Denier 10-6.

Platfoot won a 15-3 major decision over Williamsburg sophomore Ezra Wallace, was pinned in 2:32 by Wayne Trace senior Ruger Goeltzenleuchter, won a 12-1 major decision over Blanchester freshman Kadin Berwanger, won a 19-4 technical fall over North Union junior Nick Miller, lost 6-0 to Legacy Christian senior A.J. Warner and beat Patrick Henry senior Brock Gerken 12-6.

In the 120 pound division Versailles sophomore Jacob Poling beat Delphos Jefferson senior Andrew Foust 12-5, lost 8-3 to Arcanum sophomore Ethin Hoffman, pinned Coldwater freshman Koby Boggs in 2:59 and lost 9-5 to Blanchester senior Kyle Denier.

In the 195 pound division Versailles senior Jacob Rismiller pinned Coldwater sophomore Desmond Brown in 43 seconds, was pinned by Grandview Heights sophomore Hudson Jump in 5:25, pinned Blanchester freshman James Peters in 2:25 and was pinned by Bethel-Tate senior Wyatt O’Neil in 3:40.

In the 285 pound class Versailles junior Jeffrey Ware was pinned by Coldwater junior Thomas Schwieterman in 2:56, pinned Columbus Academy junior Carson Nichols in 23 seconds and was pinned by Williamsburg junior Brian Stears in 4:06.

The state qualifiers will compete at the OHSAA Division III state tournament March 9-11 at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center in Columbus. For more information about the state tournament, visit ohsaa.org.
