Tri-Village softball team wins 2 games vs. Preble Shawnee

NEW MADISON – The Tri-Village softball team swept Preble Shawnee in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday to begin the 2017 season.

Tri-Village won the first game 12-11.

Preble Shawnee scored first with three runs in the third inning, but Tri-Village tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth.

Preble Shawnee regained the lead with six runs in the top half of the sixth inning. Tri-Village scored one in the bottom half of the inning to trail 8-4.

The Arrows added to their lead with three runs in the seventh, but the Patriots rallied for eight runs in the bottom half of the seventh to win 12-11.

Tri-Village had 15 hits and four errors in the game. Preble Shawnee had 12 hits and three errors.

Payge Malott went 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Shelby Frech was 3-for-4 with a double. Kloey Murphey went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Shelby Holzapfel was 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs. Trisa Porter went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run and three RBI. Danika Mann was 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

Breeann Lipps went 1-for-4 and scored two runs. Andi Bietry, Peyton Bietry, Taylor Bowles, Madi Foreman and Rachel Miller each scored a run.

Porter pitched six innings and earned the win, allowing four earned runs and four unearned runs on nine hits, four walks and one hit batter. Bowles pitched one inning, allowing three earned runs on three hits.

Tri-Village then won the second game 7-4.

Tri-Village took an early lead with four runs in the second inning and made it 5-0 in the fourth. After Preble Shawnee scored three runs in the top half of the fifth, Tri-Village scored one run in both the fifth and sixth innings to lead 7-3. Preble Shawnee scored the game’s final run in the seventh inning.

Tri-Village had 10 hits and one error in the game, and Preble Shawnee had six hits and three errors.

Frech went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Porter was 2-for-4. Holzapfel was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI.

Allie Downing was 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Lipps was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Andi Bietry was 1-for-1 with a RBI.

Miller was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Malott was 1-for-3.Mann walked twice, scored a run and drove in one run. Foreman and Murphey both scored a run.

Bowles pitched the complete game to earn the win, allowing four earned runs on six hits, no walks and one strikeout.
