VERSAILLES – The Versailles baseball team beat Arcanum 10-2 on Monday.
Versailles took a 3-0 lead with one run in the bottom of the second inning and two in the third. After Arcanum scored its first run in the top of the fourth, Versailles responded with five in the bottom half of the inning and two in the fifth to lead 10-1. Arcanum then scored the game’s final run in the top of the seventh.
Versailles had seven hits and no errors in the game. Arcanum had three hits and two errors.
Versailles’ Keaton McEdowney was 2-for-3 with a double, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in two runs. Austin Knapke was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Kyle Subler went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, a run and a RBI.
Cole Neikamp was 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, a run and a RBI for Versailles. Isaac Ruhenkamp was 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and two runs. Noah Grisez walked once, scored a run and drove in two runs.
Versailles’ Jacob Heitkamp walked twice, drove in a run and scored a run. Zach Greisdorn walked twice, stole two bases and scored a run. Will Eversole stole a base and scored a run.
Arcanum’s Wade Meeks was 1-for-3, stole two bases and scored a run. Evan Atchley walked twice, stole a base and scored a run. Maverick Hildebrand drove in a run. Dylan Lumpkin and Alex Weiss both had a hit.
McEldowney earned the win for Versailles as he went five innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts. Austin Knapke allowed one run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout in relief.
Atchley was the losing pitcher for Arcanum as he went three innings, allowing two earned runs and one unearned run on four hits, one walk and one strikeout. Layne Byrne allowed five earned runs on two hits and five walks in a 1/3 of an inning. Weiss pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs and striking out one. Lumpkin pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on one hit, four walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts.
