Flying J’s gymnastics completes 2016-17 season

HUBER HEIGHTS – Flying J’s gymnastics had its opening meet in October at Dayton Academy in Huber Heights.

The girls enjoyed the Hallowbeam Invitational with Level 3, 4, Gold and Platinum competing in this competition. It was a good opening meet. Arianne Garrison, Gold, had a 9.0 on beam, and Emily Marchal, a Platinum, had a 9.5 on her vault.

The second competition was a demo and competition held at the Flying J’s gym. It was a chance for some high school girls to compete and get judged along with the Flying J’s gymnasts.

The team’s third competition was held at Twigs in Miamisburg in December. This Reindeer Invitational is a fun meet of competition. The girls showed a lot of improvement in their all-around scores from the prior meets.

First-year gymnast Briana Baker had an increase of 1.25 points, and Erin Leensvart had a 1.50 increase. Second-year competitor Chloe Steinbrunner had a terrific all-around score of 34.05 – her second best score of the entire season.

For Level 4, Miriam Gehret had 2.70 improvements in her score. All the Gold levels showed improvement with Kassondra Weyant having an increase of 0.60, Arianne Garrison with 1.45, Reagan Dietrich with 2.75 and Josie Pothast with 3.35 increase.

Scoring impressively for the Golds in this meet were Arianne Garrison with a 9.20 on floor, Josie Pothast with a 9.15 on floor and Kassondra Weyant with a 9.00 on floor. Level 9 Kara Steinke competed and scored a 9.10 on floor.

For their fourth meet of the season the gymnasts competed at Rainbow in Troy. Level 3 Chloe Steinbrunner had a 9.0 on vault, and she also had her very best all-around of the season with a 34.15.

Working hard to finish their season at the last meet, the championships were held at Twigs this past weekend. The gymnasts worked hard the last two weeks to clean up their routines and most finished with their very best scores.

For Level 3 Briana Baker had her best all-around with a 32.25 as did Cheyenne Doan with a 32.40 and Erin Leensvart with a 32.05. Both Cheyenne Doan and Erin Leensvart did excellent scores on floor with 9.10 and 9.00 consecutively.

For the Level 3s in their age group Briana Baker finished ninth in the all-around; Gracie Dietrich finished 10th in all-around; Cheyenne Doan finished sixth on vault, fifth on beam, second on floor and seventh all-around; Erin Leensvart was fifth on vault, fourth on floor and eighth all-around; and Chloe Steinbrunner finished fourth on vault, fifth on beam and fifth all-around.

For the Golds Reagan Dietrich finished sixth on beam and ninth all-around; Arianne Garrison finished fifth on bars, third on floor and seventh all-around; and Josie Pothast finished third on vault and fourth all-around. Arianne Garrison scored 9.30 on floor. For the Platinums, Emily Marchal placed 12th in all-around, and Eliza Smith placed third on beam, seventh on floor and sixth all-around. Eliza Smith also had a 9.15 on floor.

They gymnasts wrapped up a great season and look forward to working on new skills and getting ready for the next season that begins in August.

The Flying J’s Gymnastics is located outside Versailles, offering a full range of classes from beginner to advanced including cheer tumbling as well as private lessons. The Flying J’s hosts a competitive gymnastics team competing Level 3 through Level 8.
