VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys golf team beat Minster 177-200 in its Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday at Arrowhead Golf Club in Minster.
Versailles’ Kyle Cotner led all golfers with a nine-hole round of 41 on Wednesday. Also for the Tigers, Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker shot a 43, Griffen Riegle shot a 44, Jacob Watren shot a 49, Michael Hemmelgarn shot a 55, and Connor Custenborder shot a 61.
Jordan Brachman led Minster, the three-time defending MAC champions, with a round of 45. Also for the Wildcats, Ben Stubbs shot a 50, Adam Knapke shot a 52, Logan Lazier shot a 53, Brett Hoelscher shot a 55, and Conner Tumbusch shot a 57.
The Versailles boys improved to 1-0 in the match play this season and 1-0 in the MAC with the win.
On Monday Versailles competed in the rain-shortened Fairborn Skyhawk Invitational at Twin Base Golf Club. Because the invitational was shortened because of rain, scores were determined by the total over par for the low four players on each team for 14 holes.
Versailles finished third in the seven-team invitational with a 37-over par. Beavercreek won the tournament with a 27-over par, and Centerville finished second at 31-over par. Chaminade Julienne finished fourth with a 39-over par, Miami Valley was fifth with a 41-over par, Springfield was sixth with a 43-over par, and Fairborn finished seventh with a 57-over par.
Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker, Jacob Watren, Griffen Riegle, Kyle Cotner, Michael Hemmelgarn and Issac Ruhenkamp competed for Versailles at the Skyhawk Invitational.
