GREENVILLE — A Greenville woman was sentenced to local sanctions Monday in Darke County Common Pleas Court on a trafficking in heroin charge.

Jeanna York, 41, of Greenville, was originally indicted on two counts of trafficking in heroin, fourth-degree felonies, for incidents occurring May 13 and 14. One charge was dropped in exchange for her guilty plea.

Judge Jonathan Hein asked York to recount the incidents in court prior to her sentencing. York told him that a friend had come to her and asked if she could find some heroin for her. York obtained the heroin from another person and then sold it to the friend who requested it.

York reported her last heroin use was in July, when she turned herself in at the jail. York said that she would like to get treatment for her drug use, telling the court that she went to her family doctor but the medication provided had made her feel sick. She also said she has been attending recovery meetings, which the judge ordered she continue to attend on a weekly basis.

The judge asked her why she uses heroin, and she said she did not know but she wanted to stop.

“Wanting stuff doesn’t get it done,” Judge Hein told her, “especially if you don’t know why you do it in the first place.

“It’s not that complicated,” he added. “It’s just hard work.”

Hein sentenced York to 41 days in jail with 41 days credit for time already served. She was given 60 months of community control sanctions with intensive supervision, 75 hours of community service and a six-month driver’s license suspension. She also was ordered to pay $270 in restitution, which includes lab fees and buy money. Drug or alcohol use is prohibited, and she must comply with recommend treatment and training programs and continue her employment. She also is to be evaluated for Vivitrol treatment.

York is subject to 13 months in prison if she fails to comply with the terms of her community control sanctions.
