Versailles girls bowling district champs; heading to State tournament

BEAVERCREEK — The Versailles High School girls bowling team are district champions after taking first in the Division II District bowling tournament. The team bowled a 3,664, and won by 266 pins.

Senior Payton Groff had the second highest score in the tournament with a 590. Senior Emma Billenstein was fourth with a score of 557. Sophomore Danielle Francis bowled a 524, ninth highest in the tournament. Juniors Cora Trissell and Samantha Yerick bowled a 351 and a 310 respectively.

Mississinawa Valley finished 14th in the event with a score of 2,790. Senior Nereida Velasco led the team with a 482, the 19th best score at districts. Senior Abby Green bowled a 444. Seniors Krista Miller and Lilly Severance bowled a 381 and 380 respectively.

From Ansonia, individual qualifier senior Haylee Brown bowled a 456 and finished 38th at the tournament.

Versailles will head to Wayne Webb’s in Columbus on March 3 and 4 for the State tournament.
