What are your plans for the upcoming Holiday? Maybe a cookout, some fireworks, and family time? A survey from last year that across the country 65% of all Americans plan to celebrate the Independence Holiday with a cookout, barbecue or picnic, and FIREWORKS, of course!

Local firework festivities in Darke County are as follows: Ansonia Fireworks will be at the Ansonia Ball Park on July 5th at dusk. New Madison Fireworks will be on July 6th at dusk at 315 South Main Street. Greenville’s Fireworks will be at the Darke County Fairgrounds on July 6th at dusk.

The Arcanum Preservation Society welcomes you to join them for their Fifth Annual Children’s Parade on July 4th in Ivester Park. APS will be offering hamburgers and hotdogs for a donation. Bring the family to Ivester Park for lunch and stay to cheer on the kids during the parade. Registration for the parade starts at 12 Noon, lineup is at 12:45 p.m. and the parade starts at 1 p.m. All money raised helps to support the ongoing restoration of the Arcanum Opera House (formerly known as the Arcanum City Building/Police Department.)

The 2024 New Madison 4th of July Festival will be presented by the New Madison 4th of July Committee. This year’s festival will take place on Friday, July 5 from 5 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday, July 6 from 7 a.m. to midnight. The fireworks will be displayed on Saturday evening at dusk, being set off from the same location as always. Feel free to watch from your favorite spot, or watch from the festival lot on Main Street, where live music will begin following the firework display. Once again, Main Street will be shut down from traffic light to traffic light, with activities happening in the lot across from Farmers State Bank, and on Main Street.

The Village of Ansonia will host their annual 4th of July Parade on Saturday, July 6th beginning at 11 a.m. Parade lineup starts at 9:45am at the First Church of God on State Route 118. For all those who all those that wish to participate, register your entry for the Parade, click on the link: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSeP5BlS9Df…/viewform… Please note the parade route is from the First Church of God, turn Left onto 118, head North to center of town, turn Right onto 47, head East to Tiger Way and turn Left heading North; end of route. Enjoy!

Ansonia has a lot to do over the 4th of July – The Firecracker 5k begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 4th. On Friday, July 5 at 6:30 p.m. they will host the Little Mister & Miss Red, White, and Blue Pageant and at 7 p.m. a Kiddie Pedal Pull. Also, on Friday and Saturday will be the Ansonia Alumni Co-Ed Softball Tourney, and in addition to the parade on Saturday at 1 p.m. is the Ansonia American Legion Chicken Barbeque! Have you been to the Arcanum Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings at Veteran’s Park yet? They are open every Saturday during the summer from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon with several new vendors this year. Ready to make your plans now? There’s plenty to do, now let’s plan what to eat! Did you know that the most eaten item over the 4th of July in the United States is a hotdog? Per a poll

in 2022, Americans eat 47 percent more hotdogs than any other food on the 4th of July. Next on the list were hamburgers, along with sweet corn, watermelon, baked beans, and potato chips. Sounds like a great menu, how about you, what are you going to fix at your backyard barbeque/picnic/cookout?
