GREENVILLE — There is a new store in downtown Greenville, and it is sure to be a fun addition for the community. Topsy Turvy Toys opened its third location on Wednesday, July 17 and Greenville and the Darke County community now have a specialty toy store where they can find toys that can’t be found at the big box stores. The store is located in the building formerly occupied by Sweet Annie’s Cabin, 436 S. Broadway, Greenville.

Topsy Turvy Toys was founded 17 years ago in New Breman by Cathi Hall. The store focuses on education and encouraging kids and adults to play. Hall believes creating opportunities for people to play is an important aspect of development. She said, “Success for me is not measured by capitalism. Success for me is finding the right toy to create authentic engagement. Even just handing someone a whistle candy and letting them play with it and finding joy is what we’re about. Our tagline is ‘play matters’ because play matters in every stage of development and I always say we’re not clowns, but we really engage in play.”

That success led her to open a store in Tipp City six years ago. One of her customers encouraged her to come to Greenville. The customers also happen to be her new landlord, Ed and Kathy Cornell. The Cornells informed her they had a space opening up and a specialty toy store would add variety to the downtown shopping area.

The Topsy Turvy Toys website shares that some of the store’s favorite toy brands are AMIGO, LEGO and OOLY.

The store carries educational and developmental toys for children ages birth through 14, but also carries games, puzzles and other toys that engage adults in play.

In addition to toys, there is a store within the store. Bitty Bees Kids is a unique clothing line from a local designer. The clothes are handmade in Tipp City.

Hall encourages people to stop in and visit and see what Topsy Turvy Toys is all about. The store is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Find more information about Topsy Turvy Toys on their website, www.topsyturvytoys.com.
