Ansonia EMS receives Lifesaver Award for performing life-saving CPR

ANSONIA — The Ansonia Area Emergency Service received the prestigious Lifesaver Award for their remarkable efforts in performing life-saving CPR.

This recognition was presented to three EMS personnel and four firefighters from the Ansonia Volunteer Fire Department, who played pivotal roles in saving an Ansonia resident.

In attendance was the patient and his family, the crew consisting of Chief Crystal Horne Paramedic, Captain Bryer Gilland EMT, Malachi Holt EMT, Captain Kyle Armstrong, Captain Kevin McKenna, Lieutenant Cory Meadows, and Firefighter Devin McKenna. As well as Ansonia Volunteer Fire Department, Ansonia Police Chief, The Mayor of Ansonia, Squad Board President, township trustees, family members and friends of all involved in this special event.

The Lifesaver Award, presented by Miami Valley Hospital’s Jordan Jefferies, acknowledges outstanding contributions to emergency medical care and intervention. While seven percent of CPR attempts are survivable less than two percent recover nearly 100 percent Neurologically intact.

Jefferies stated this marks the fifth time in the past two years that he has honored local emergency service with this award. With the 1,000s of calls covering the 13 counties that Miami Valley hospital serves, this underscores the exceptional performance and consistent excellence of the Ansonia Area Emergency Service and Ansonia Volunteer Fire Department.

The award ceremony highlighted the collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment of the emergency responders. Each first responder was presented with an award and challenge coin provided by Premier Health Miami valley Hospital. Chief Horne presented her colleges with a CPR Save pin.

The first responders gave a recount of the call.

“This area is blessed with some of the best first responders,” Horne said. “This was the perfect ending to teamwork.”

“I would like to say that I am very proud of the way my crew and fellow first responders worked diligently together to provide the best care for the patient. Positive outcomes like this proves why quality training and dedication pays off,” Lieutenant Meadows said.

Miami Valley Hospital commended the Ansonia Volunteer Fire Department and Ansonia Area Emergency Service for their extraordinary service, emphasizing the impact of their work on the community’s safety and well-being.

The Lifesaver Award serves as a reminder of the vital role played by local emergency services and the importance of continued support and recognition for those who work to protect and save lives.
