ARCANUM — The Franklin Monroe Coed soccer team came close to a home win on August 27. The Jets lost 3-2 to the Tri-County North boys team after they couldn’t get the tying goal at the end of the game.

Head coach Brian Robison said he is proud of his team’s efforts, especially towards the end when they were generating chances to tie the game. The team improved since the beginning of the season.

“We’ve definitely been building game to game. I’m really proud of the way the team fought hard to try and get the victory,” Robison said. “A little unlucky with the last penalty kick being saved. Can’t fault the players. They fought until the end.”

The Jets started out on the right foot as freshman Evan Addis scored one minute into the start of the game.

After that, both teams played a physical first half. Each team had their fair share of scoring chances as the ball kept moving up and down the field.

Some small Franklin Monroe mistakes opened the door for Tri-County North to score. The Panthers found their groove and scored twice in the last six minutes of the first half to lead 2-1 at halftime.

Tri-County North started out the second half playing well and found the back of the net again at the 29 minute mark to go up 3-1.

After that goal, Franklin Monroe became the aggressors. They took their play to another level as they kept getting shots towards the goal.

At the 13 minute mark, senior Chase Stebbins hit a screamer from outside the box to cut into the Panthers’ lead, 3-2.

Between that goal and some saves by sophomore goalie Eddie Heck, the Jets got the momentum they needed to put pressure on the Tri-County North defense.

Franklin Monroe peppered the Panthers’ goalie with shots to close out the game. In the final minutes, the Jets had a penalty kick with the chance to tie the game. It was blocked and Franklin Monroe couldn’t score on the rebound.

The Jets kept pushing for that goal until time ran out.

After a road game at Dixie, the team will be at Newton on September 3 for a 5:30 p.m. start. They will then host West Liberty Salem on September 5 at 6:30 p.m.
