Darke County Center for theArts has announced its upcoming season of presentations featuring music plus more good stuff (as the program theme—-”Music, Music, Music—And More!”—proudly proclaims.) This column will concentrate on the music, and we’ll discuss the more later. DCCA’s amazingly diverse Artists Series will see pop and classic favorites, a renowned Nashville singer/songwriter, an amazing a cappella group, and an orchestra from Toledo that is not the Toledo Symphony but whose program will be mesmerizing.

The season opens at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 12 with an eclectic trio who capture audiences with their exceptional musicianship, whether playing the songs of Willie Nelson or Johann Sebastian Bach. Take 3 was created and is led by violinist/vocalist Lindsay Deutsch, who is joined on stage by two lovely and passionate musicians on the piano and cello; the trio is known for genre-defying performances and down-to-earth onstage personality that has fired up concert goers across the nation.

Then on Saturday, November 16, three of Nashville’s most talented singer-songwriters will bring their music to the Memorial Hall stage with “Evening in the Round,” an intimate night of acoustic music starring Grammy Award-winner Linda Davis, known for her appearances with country star Reba McEntire. Other members of the trio are Lang Scott who has not only written songs recorded by Lee Ann Rimes, JoDee Messina, and others, but has also appeared on the Grand Ol’ Opry multiple times, and Bill Whyte, who is known for his funny and twisted songwriting as well as his career as a morning radio personality which has earned him a spot in the Country Radio Broadcast Hall of Fame.

A cappella favorites Six Appeal will bring their vibrant energy and dynamic blend of sounds to St. Clair Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 22. Two-time global a cappella champions, the group of four men and two women define what it means to create intriguing music using only the human voice. They have performed at various festivals and corporate events, as well as on Disney and Cunard Cruise Line ships, and traveled to such diverse locations as Moscow, Russia and Kettering, Ohio.

DCCA’s Artist Series will close on Saturday, May 10, with an ensemble traveling to Greenville from Toledo, Ohio; however, this time the group taking to the road is the Toledo Jazz Orchestra—18 outstanding musicians conducted by Alain Trudel, who also is the music director for the Toledo Symphony. During its 42-year history, TJO has worked with industry legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Branford Marsalis, and Clark Terry while developing a large following in their home community.

On Thursday, February 13, just in time for Valentine’s Day, DCCA’s featured event will take place at Hotel Versailles when local favorite singer/songwriter Lisa Biales performs. The performance will be accompanied by a buffet meal (including dessert) provided by Silas Creative Kitchen. Lisa, a warm-hearted performer with a memorable voice, will add extra warmth to a good time with old friends or a romantic night out with that special someone. A ticket for dinner and the show costs $75.

A subscription to DCCA’s entire Artists Series Season of four outstanding shows can be purchased for $130; individual ticket prices are $30 each for Take 3, Linda Davis, and Six Appeal, while admission to the Toledo Jazz Orchestra costs $40. DCCA membership donations at the Supporter (beginning at $400) level and above include two tickets to each of the Artists Series shows. Subscribe now, before the best seats are gone. (However, in truth, there are NO bad seats at St. Clair Memorial Hall; most people have their favorite spots, but the impeccable acoustics and accessible sight-lines are excellent throughout the auditorium.)
