GREENVILLE — Main Street Greenville’s Mural Committee is planning to install a new mural enhancing the city’s downtown area on Friday, Sept. 20. The public is invited to watch the process from the Greenville City Building parking lot as Wintrow Signs’ workers spend the day putting the approximately 40 foot x 40 foot work of art on the side of the building housing Brightspeed. A brief ceremony introducing the artist who created the scene featuringGreenville City Park, Don Mong, and recognizing the sponsors of this project will begin at 1 p.m. Refreshments from Beanz Buttercream Bakery and Eatery will also be provided. In case of rain, these events will be postponed to the first rain-free day during the following week beginning on Monday, Sept. 23.

The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and take in the spectacle as the mural in its digitized vinyl version is hung in place. Don Mong, who is donating his artwork for this project, will be signing 5 x 7 prints of his watercolor painting during the installation; these prints will be available for $10 each. On Thursday, Sept. 19, the artist is also leading a unique class teaching participants to create a festive holiday card from used, dried teabags; participation in this fun activity costs $30. Reservations can be made at Beanz. Funds derived from the sale of prints and the class will benefit the Mural Committee, helping fund future murals.

This enhancement of downtown Greenville is made possible with funds provided by the Ohio Arts Council, Harry D. Stephens Memorial, Brown Family Foundation, Darke County Endowment for the Arts, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, Ralph and Phyllis Brumbaugh Fund of Darke County Foundation, and Rotary of Greenville. The Mural Committee has also received support from Wintrow Signs, Fitzwater Lawn Care and Maintenance, the City of Greenville, Austin Spencer, Roof Maxx, Brightspeed, and Timothy Wells Art Consulting.
