DAYTON — Solvita joined the nation in celebrating the 19th annual Blood Collectors Week Sept. 1-7. Solvita honored all dedicated phlebotomists, apheresis specialists, medical directors, donor recruiters, technicians, and couriers for their vital role as the connection between blood donors and patients depending on blood for optimal treatment.

Blood Collectors Week was sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) and Fresenius Kabi, a global health care company.

“Our nation is fortunate to have thousands of dedicated and skilled professionals who work tirelessly every day to maintain the safety and availability of the blood supply,” said Debra BenAvram, chief executive officer of AABB. “Their heroic work is an essential part of ensuring that blood is always available for patients in need throughout the country.”

Nearly 300 blood centers across the U.S. were expected to host Blood Collectors Week celebrations.

“Managing blood collection for the good of all donors and patients requires quality, safety and care,” said Solvita Vice President for Donor Services Tracy Morgan. “Blood collectors deserve our heartfelt appreciation. This week we give tribute to them for their contribution to the better health of our community.”

Blood collectors are invited to visit bloodcollectors.org to share what makes them proud of their vital role in health care. Read their stories on X (formerly Twitter) by following @bloodcollectors and use the hashtags #BloodCollectorsWeek and #SavingLives.
