GREENVILLE — The Greenville football got the chance to open Harmon Field on September 6 after the field was repaired during the summer. The Green Wave lost 72-7 to one of the top teams in the MVL in Tippecanoe.

Greenville entered the game down juniors Gabe Rammel and Lukas Thorp, two of their top offensive players. In the first quarter, sophomore Titus Eberwein, in for Rammel, was knocked out of the game. Later on in the game, junior offensive lineman Landon Noble left the game due to injury.

Greenville tried to throw some new things at Tippecanoe early in the game. They started the first quarter running tight offensive formations with the offensive line shifted to the right.

Tippecanoe held strong defensively and gave their offense multiple possessions in the first quarter. The Red Devils scored 28 points in the first quarter. Sophomore Larkin Thomas had three touchdowns passes in the first quarter. Junior Will Strong caught one touchdown pass and ran 57 yards for another touchdown. Senior Jackson Davis caught the other two touchdown passes.

A common theme in this game, the Green Wave didn’t stop fighting. At the start of the second quarter, junior Aiden Manix hit a wide open junior John Barr for a 57-yard touchdown pass to make it a 28-7 game.

However, Tippecanoe made up for those points as Davis returned the kickoff 97 yards for the score.

The Greenville offense made some plays, but couldn’t string them together. They were able to overcome some penalties and move the ball. They couldn’t finish drives consistently.

Junior Xavier Melton rushed for two touchdowns for Tippecanoe in the second quarter. Another Thomas to Strong touchdown throw just before the end of the first half gave the Red Devils a 56-7 lead at halftime.

Like in the first half, Greenville continued to fight and make some plays. Manix was able to connect with sophomore Isaac Kerg for a few first downs. After Eberwein left, sophomore Gage Denham ran for a few chunk plays in the game. He also had some nice returns to give the Green Wave some good field position.

The Red Devils were able to bounce back from letting up those big plays to get a turnover or end the Greenville drive. The Red Devils scored two more touchdowns and got a safety on a errand Greenville snap on a punt.

In the final minutes of the game, Manix was leading the Green Wave down the field. He was making throws and using his legs to his advantage.

Manix was able to find a crease and scored a 26-yard touchdown, until it was called back on a penalty. The drive ended with a Manix interception.

While wounded, the Green Wave came out and gave it their all against one of the better teams in the MVL. Greenville is now 0-3 on the season with a 0-2 MVL record. They will host Butler next on September 13 at 7 p.m.
