Hayner’s PorchFest taking place this Saturday

TROY — On September 14, 2024 the Troy, Ohio PorchFest will launch its fifth music festival in Troy’s lovely Southwest Historic District. At 10:30 a.m. the dynamic T.R.S.S Drum Corp will march down Oxford Street toward the Hayner front lawn, launching the festival. The food court will open with six food vendors at 11:00 including Wholly Smokes BBQ, The Big Red Food Truck and Home Cooked Vibes as well as an art village with twelve artisan tents.

The music begins at noon with forty bands on forty porches playing rock, country, bluegrass and folk. There are also some special musical offerings like jazz, pop, blues and Indie. On porch number 46 at 1 p.m. you will find a big OOMPAH band. On Porch # 67 at 4 p.m. you will find Jimmy Felts’ jazz guitar solo. Many bands will be playing their favorites from the 60s, 70s and 80s but you will also be able to experience genres like “funkadelic” by Nasty Bing on porch # 41 at 2:00 or Mt. Analogue with experimental music on porch # 49 at 2:00. The Paradox Saxophone quartet will light up The Troy Foundation porch on Franklin Street with some pop, chamber and jazz. With about seven bands starting each hour, it is difficult to see every band. PorchFest fliers will help you plot your musical strategy through the neighborhood of concerts. Fliers can be found at the Hayner website at www.TroyHayner.org/porchfest or at the Info Booth on the day of the festival.

“Seth Canan and the Carriers will close the festival on the Hayner porch with some exciting rock and roll,” says Terrilynn Meece the event coordinator at the Hayner. “This band is a trio of truly exceptional musicians, and it is regional musicians that this festival is all about. Aren’t we all so, so glad that all these talented musicians decided to stay here in our town and invest in our community? Isn’t their music a great gift? PorchFest is a fun day, full of music and neighbors and community generosity. And some really, great food!”

The project is funded by the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, the Friends of Hayner and over 20 local businesses and community leaders including Dungan and LeFevre Law Offices, The Troy Foundation and Upper Valley Hearing and Balance. There are over 100 musicians involved in playing music for the concerts, and over 50 community-based committee members and volunteers that make it all happen. Staff from the Hayner and the Troy-Miami County Public Library work throughout the year to make the event sing with the help of the good folks at the City of Troy.
