GREENVILLE — The county is applying for funding to update their online security. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

A grant for funding of a Multi-Factor Authenticating App was approved by the Commissioners. Dale Musser, the facilities and safety manager, explained that the Ohio Department of Homeland Security is administrating funds awarded to the State through the SLCGP Grant Program to provide financial assistance for the CyberOhio Local Government Grant Program for Ohio local government entities.

“The county has to do a Multi-Factor Authentication on all of our computers across the county,” Musser said. “It is quite an expensive and time consuming adventure for us to do that.”

He said they found out last Friday that there was a grant to complete this project, and on Monday, he presented the papers to Susan Laux, the Grant & Funding Specialist. They also recently received a quote for the services with a grand total of 428,785.

“The grant is actually due by noon this Monday,” Laux said. “It does provide a maximum amount of funding totaling $20,000. With your blessing, we will apply for the $20,000 and then match that with $8,575 due to there being a 20 percent match that we would receive.”

The commissioners approved the grant, and Commissioner Combs added that Multi-Factor Authentication is a way to protect the county’s software from cyber attacks.

“It is just an extra layer of online security to keep out data secure from anybody that might be trying to do any kind of cyber attack, so that is what this is for. Software and data security,” Combs said.

The commissioners also agreed to a letter of support for the Infrastructure Funding for the Village of Union City Industrial Park. Commissioner Aultman said this letter comes from the Economic Development Office.

“They have a project for potential job creation and growth in Union City,” Aultman said. “This here is going along with their application to ask for some funding.”

This project will create approximately 130 jobs on an 80 acre sight on the south eastern side of the Village.

“This is just a letter of support that the board wishes to consider,” Aultman said.

Also for consideration, the commissioners looked at expense requests for the Darke County Airport and Animal Shelter. Chief Bair and three others are looking to attend an Animal Attack Investigation and Reporting Seminar in Troy this month. Total costs for the trip includes registration for four at $175 a piece to total $700 to attend.

A grand total of $30 was requested to cover OH Aviation Association Event costs for Airport Manager Scott Naas. This event will be held at the Dayton International Airport and will cover the cost of parking alone. The airport will also be hosting its second annual Fly-In on Sept. 21st from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

There they will offer an aerobatic thrill ride in Checkers, a WWII warbird, helicopter rides, airplanes, CareFlight, and more.

The commissioners meet every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Administration Building: 520 S Broadway. All are welcome to attend.
