Family Health physician honored with Preceptor of the Year award and new leadership role

GREENVILLE — Family Health Services of Darke County family medicine physician, Dr. Heidi Yount, has been awarded the Theodore E. Wymyslo, MD, OPCWI Preceptor of the Year Award for 2024. This prestigious honor, presented by the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC), recognizes Dr. Yount’s exceptional commitment to mentoring and training the next generation of healthcare providers.

Additionally, Dr. Yount has been elected as the vice speaker of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) board of directors, a testament to her leadership and dedication to the field of family medicine.

“I am incredibly honored to receive the OPCWI Preceptor of the Year Award,” said Dr. Yount. “Mentoring the next generation of healthcare providers is a passion of mine, and I am grateful to be recognized for contributing to their education and development. I look forward to continuing to work with students and residents to help them become compassionate and skilled practitioners.”

The OPCWI Preceptor of the Year Award, named after Dr. Wymyslo in recognition of his leadership in creating and developing the Ohio Primary Care Workforce Initiative, honors outstanding preceptors who exemplify clinical excellence, critical thinking, effective communication, and dedication to student and patient satisfaction. Dr. Yount was selected for her exemplary qualities in teaching, her commitment to patient-centered care, and her ability to inspire and guide medical students through her work with the Wright State University Rural Family Medicine Residency Program, a collaboration with Family Health.

Dr. Yount has been a core faculty member of the residency program since 2020. She practices family medicine with special interests in women’s health and newborn nursery care. She joined Family Health in 2011 after completing her residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. Dr. Yount is a board-certified family medicine physician and a graduate of Ohio Northern University and Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

“Dr. Yount’s commitment to excellence in patient care and medical education is truly commendable,” said Jared Pollick, executive director of Family Health. “Her leadership and dedication not only enhance the quality of care we provide at Family Health but also contribute significantly to the future of healthcare in our community. Dr. Yount will be formally recognized for her achievements at the OACHC Fall Conference Sept. 26-27 in Columbus.
